“It is the natural, fundamental right of parents and legal guardians to determine and direct the care, teaching, and education of their children. The public schools of this state serve the needs of the pupils by cooperating with the pupil’s parents and legal guardians to develop the pupil’s intellectual capabilities and vocational skills in a safe and positive environment.”

MEET YOUR CANDIDATE

Donna Mooney is a fierce advocate for parental rights, limited government, and a return to education excellence. She believes children should be allowed to be children without having adult issues pushed onto them. Donna believes parents and children need advocates in our schools, and hopes to be one as a school board member.

The education system too often gives priority to the interests and agendas of powerful teacher unions and special interest groups, to the detriment of teaching children the educational skills necessary to succeed in life. This is evidenced by dismal literacy scores.

In 2020, when our kids were unconstitutionally masked, Donna’s child with asthma was denied an exemption. Donna promised her kids she would defend them. At that time Donna also became aware of the inappropriate content and agendas in the classrooms. Being a student of history, she could clearly see the parallels between Marxism and Socialism and what was being taught.

Donna began calling her state representatives, speaking at school board meetings, as well as at county commissioner meetings. Feeling unheard, she ran and was elected as a precinct delegate and joined the campaign management team of a statewide candidate. Now Donna feels called to run for school board.

Donna grew up in Michigan in a blue-collar family that taught hardworking values and love of faith, family, freedom, and country. Donna attended Columbus State Community College and The Ohio State University. She has worked as a networking analyst dealing with communications, doing project management in IT, and as a trained paralegal. Donna has been self-employed for the past 14 years as a contract mortgage closer, which allows her to work around her family’s schedule.

Donna lives in Jenison with her husband, Brian, and their two teenagers. In her spare time Donna enjoys reading, writing, researching, spending time with her family on their pontoon, camping, dining with friends and riding roller coasters with her kids.
